PacketHop Names Mark Boyer as Director of Government Affairs
Public Sector Veteran Strengthens Government Expertise on Management Team
BELMONT, CA (February 15, 2005) - PacketHop, Inc., a leader in secure mobile mesh broadband communications, today announced the appointment of Mark Boyer as director of government affairs. Boyer, a seasoned veteran with nearly 30 years of hands-on public sector experience at the federal, state and local level, will be responsible for managing and developing relationships and business with elected and appointed officials at every level of government.
"Mark is intimately familiar with U.S. state and local government operations and funding," said Michael Howse, president and CEO of PacketHop. "His expertise in government affairs will be crucial as PacketHop responds to the growing demand for our software-based mobile mesh solution targeting public safety and homeland security."
Boyer's appointment comes as PacketHop is expanding its business to meet the mission-critical needs in the public safety and homeland security markets for instant and survivable peer-to-peer wireless broadband networking with robust security, reliability, interoperability and improved cost performance. PacketHop software easily loads onto virtually all standard IP radio-equipped mobile devices and instantaneously creates a wireless broadband network on the fly, without requiring a network-based server. PacketHop's software solutions open the door to new avenues for wireless broadband communication – unencumbered by dependence on traditional wireless network infrastructure, while able to seamlessly integrate with this infrastructure when available.
Prior to joining PacketHop, Boyer was a director at Cisco Systems, where he built their Public Sector Internet Business Solutions Group; he also led Cisco's business development efforts in homeland security focused in the U.S. state and local marketplace. Boyer is the former commissioner of Administration for the State of Alaska; he also served as the State's chief information officer and as the city manager for the city of Fairbanks, Alaska.
Boyer's legislative experience spans 18 years and includes four years on the staff of a former U.S. senator, six years as chief of staff to a state senator and three terms in the Alaska House of Representatives where he served as an appropriator and a member of several standing committees.
