PacketHop Announces Support for Axis Communications Network Cameras

PacketHop and Axis Communications enable resellers and integrators to deliver complete wireless video surveillance systems with high performance, flexibility and scalability

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - June 7, 2007 - PacketHop®, Inc., a leading provider of intelligent wireless IP video networks and multimedia applications, and Axis Communications, the global market leader in network video products, have formed a strategic partnership to integrate PacketHop's wireless IP networked video system with Axis Communications' family of network cameras and video servers. Targeted at professional installations in the commercial, public safety, municipal government and transportation markets, PacketHop's wireless IP networked video system, coupled with Axis Communications' network cameras and video servers, enable enhanced video quality and mobility at a fraction of the cost of competing wired and wireless solutions.

IP networked video system adoption is dramatically increasing in the public and private video surveillance markets. "The video surveillance market is shifting toward digital cameras based on an IP networking interface," said Mark Kirstein, vice president of iSuppli. "IP video surveillance camera revenue will increase to nearly 50 percent of the total $9 billion surveillance camera market by 2010. The 'hyper growth' of the market can be attributed to increasing security needs, the development of new applications and technological innovations that enhance the video quality, scalability, ease of deployment and cost effectiveness of IP networked video systems."

The video surveillance industry's rapid shift from analog CCTV surveillance systems to IP networked video systems is also driving video surveillance deployments using wireless networks. Wireless IP networked video systems like PacketHop's eliminate cabling requirements - enabling video surveillance systems to be deployed in locations that were previously too difficult or cost-prohibitive to cover. These locations include parking lots, event venues, schools, resorts and construction sites. PacketHop also enables customers to monitor vehicles - like trains, public transit and school buses - and to integrate with and access video from existing analog CCTV video surveillance systems using Axis Communications' video servers.

PacketHop's wireless IP networked video system features the company's patented DynaMesh™ technology, which proactively optimizes bandwidth and intelligently manages video distribution to avoid dropping frames and reducing picture quality. PacketHop delivers the highest quality video possible, even when a wireless network experiences bandwidth constraints.

PacketHop also provides its Aware™ Application Suite, a fully-integrated set of server-less multimedia applications. The suite includes real-time video, GPS resource tracking, multimedia instant messaging and whiteboarding. GPS tracking enables users to monitor the location of resources, like a security guard, or view the location of surveillance cameras on a satellite image or map. Aware also enables responding public and private security agencies to easily view real-time video feeds while approaching a scene. This capability provides security guards and police officers with greater awareness.

"Axis Communications invented the network video market 10 years ago and continues to innovate and lead with network cameras like the AXIS 212 PTZ and AXIS 243Q video server," said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager of Axis Communications. "By combining the company's network cameras and video servers with PacketHop's intelligent wireless networking and wireless video management expertise, resellers and integrators can deliver complete wireless video surveillance and remote monitoring solutions featuring high performance, flexibility and scalability."

"Recognized as a technology innovator, Axis Communications has established a strong presence in the network camera market," said Michael Howse, president and chief executive officer of PacketHop. "Wireless is clearly the future of the video surveillance industry because it's flexible, mobile and easy to deploy. Our partnership enables system resellers and integrators to deliver solutions that offer businesses and government and transportation agencies unrivaled video quality."
