Lakewood Police

The Lakewood, New Jersey police deployed the state’s first successful 4.9 GHz-based mobile-mesh broadband network at Wingstock 2006, a rock concert and community event held in September 2006. Since that time, Lakewood Police have been using the PacketHop Communications System to for security, video surveillance and other tactical activities associated with their day-to-day operations. A variety of information is available that provides additional detail on these activities.



This case study describes how Lakewood utilized PacketHop’s multicast video and GPS mapping applications for incident command, security and crowd control at Wingstock and also includes information on a mock Hazmat activity at the event.



PacketHop recently presented a complementary webinar featuring the Lakewood Police Department’s use of 4.9 GHz-based mobile-mesh networks. Lakewood Police Department Officer Robert DeSimone explains how the department is utilized mesh-enabled technologies to support Wingstock and provide security for a visiting dignitary. In addition, Officer DeSimone describes a variety of day-to-day use cases for the technology. This webinar also includes information on 4.9 GHz spectrum, its advantages and adoption.
